Food4Futures-Ithemba Le Kamva is a Makhanda/Grahamstown based non-profit organisation whose primary focus is on hunger alleviation.
Food4Futures' many projects aim to meet the needs in the local community by bridging the gap between those in need and those with the means to meet the need.

Food Parcels

Food4Futures distributes grocery parcels to those in need in our community who are unable to adequately support themselves.

For R250 per month, we are able to provide a recipient with two parcels each month, which is sufficient to feed a single adult and a child, or to partially feed a family.

For R125 per month, we are able to provide one food parcel per month to a recipient.

Each parcel consists of Maize Meal, Rice, Samp or Flour and Yeast, Baked Beans, Sugar, Tea, Soup, Salt, Soap, and Candles.

Sandwiches

Every Monday, our volunteers make around 300 peanut butter sandwiches , which are then handed out to those who come to us on a Tuesday morning.

Although a sandwich once a week isn't enough to sustain anyone for a prolonged period, each sandwich is a bright spot in the lives of those who come to us.

Some may not have eaten in several days, so even the small drop of hope we can offer makes a huge difference to those we serve.

Our volunteers also pack food parcels, help put together Parking4Parcel voucher booklets, and so much more!

Parking4Parcels

Our Parking4Parcels project allows members of the public to purchase vouchers, which can be given to car guards or anyone else in need. These vouchers can then be redeemed at our premises at 33 New Street, for food and other essentials.

This project gives motorists and the general public the confidence of knowing that their contribution will be used responsibly.

The recipient of the voucher is also able to reclaim their autonomy and independence when they are able to choose what they need from among the items offered.

Care4Community

Felicia heads up our Care4Community project, which looks after several people with disabilities who are often confined to their homes.

We visit each person, spending time with them, taking them food, supplements, and medication. Listening to their needs and meeting them wherever possible.

The Care4Community project seeks to meet the needs of the community to the best of our ability, bringing hope, comfort, and kindness to those we serve.

Identity Documentation

Many people in our community do not have an I.D. for various reasons, including, but not limited to: House Fires, Theft, Floods, Precarious Living Arrangements, and informal loan operators.

Without an ID it is impossible for people to get SASSA grants, proper medical care and apply for jobs.

Food4Futures seeks to address this problem by working with the Department of Home Affairs to help people get their ID.

Many people are able to secure employment almost as soon as they recieve their ID Card!

Clothing & Bedding Donations

Food4Futures also receives clothing, bedding, shoes, household items , and other donations, which we distribute to those in our community who need them.

We are always accepting donations of all kinds . When our storage room is full, we are able to open our doors to our recipients, who are then able to choose items they need.

We especially try to collect at least 250 blankets each year to give to our parcel recipients and the Car Guards that come to us regularly.
